Newly installed Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula on Sunday, June 27, visited the poor community in Maricaban, Pasay City which is under the Mary, Comforter of the Afflicted Parish.

The Archdiocese of Manila said the archbishop, together with Fr. Anton Pascual, executive director of Caritas Manila and Fr. Russel Ocampo, parish priest of MCAP, led the gift giving for the poor.
After the gift giving, Advincula presided over a Mass at the MCAP where he mentioned his visit.
"As I went around, I saw the reality. The reality of your life is a picture of the reality of the lives of many of our brothers and sisters here in the Archdiocese of Manila," he said.
"Reality of poverty, of need, of suffering, of lack of many things and despair. This is further exacerbated by the pandemic that we all experience," added Advincula.
"Many lost their jobs and livelihoods. Many also get sick. Many die and many families grieve over the loss of loved ones. With all this we no longer know what to do. We no longer know where we are going and we do not know where to turn for help," he said.
The prelate said as a shepherd, his mission is to bring the people closer to Jesus, the Good Shepherd.
"I came to the Archdiocese of Manila not as a healer and savior. I am here so that with you we may all come closer to Jesus...through my teaching, leading in prayer and worship, and in leading as a servant leader may you all draw closer to the Lord and deepen your faith in Him," said Advincula.
"In my interaction with you, in my listening to you, I know that you too will be the way for me to be closer to Jesus," he added.
"Pray that I will faithfully fulfill this mission," Advincula said.
The cardinal was formally installed as the 33rd Archbishop of Manila on June 24.
