Monsoon rains possible over parts of northern, Central Luzon; fair weather to prevail over Metro Manila, rest of PH

The southwest monsoon or "habagat" may continue to affect some parts of northern and Central Luzon, while fair weather conditions will likely prevail over the rest of the country, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday, June 25.

In the next 24 hours, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may affect Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Bataan, and Zambales.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides as rains may become moderate to at times heavy.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to habagat and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to stay vigilant against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the weather bureau continues to monitor a severe tropical storm outside the Philippine area of responsibility on Friday.

The severe tropical storm with international name "Champi" was estimated at 1,840 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph. It was moving north-northwestward at 10 kph.

PAGASA weather specialist Shelly Ignacio said the storm has a slim chance of entering the PAR.

If it does enter the PAR, it may only skirt the boundary of the PAR but still not expected to directly affect the country, she added.
