Laguio wins Arellano U's first gold

Arellano University bet Stanley Roy Laguio gave the Chiefs their first gold medal in taekwondo’s speed kicking competition as he ruled the bantamweight category in the NCAA Season 96 last Thursday, June 24.

Laguio tallied 6.583 points for Arellano as he defeated San Sebastian College’s opponent Axl Zerrudo, who took silver medal with 6.442 points. Bronze medal went to San Beda's Michael Christian Macario (6.383 points).

By finishing second, the Stags have entered the medal tally in the men's speed kicking online competition shown on GTV channel of GMA-7, the league’s new broadcast partner.

The Red Jins, on the other hand, remained on top of the medal standings with their 1-1-3 gold-silver-bronze haul. College of Saint Benilde is at second spot with 1-0-1 in the medal standings.

Another Chiefs bet, Carl Louie Ayaton, placed fourth with 6.342.

Rounding out the finishers are San Beda's Gianne Kyle Sarmiento Legaspi (6.308), Jose Rizal University's John Jezra Lorena Sasutona (5.950) and CSB's Kian Graydon Ashe (5.917).

Led by overall host Letran, the speed kicking competition in the NCAA men's division will continue until June 29, followed by the women's category on June 30 to July 5.

Also set next month is online chess, and possibly the ‘hybrid’ events in basketball and volleyball, which are all skills challenges.
