Hontiveros running for re-election in next year's polls

Senator Risa Hontiveros has confirmed she will seek re-election in the upcoming May 2022 elections.

Hontiveros, however, declined to make any further details about her political plans saying she has to wait for her political party coalition to make the necessary announcement.

She also withheld giving details of her political plans in deference to former President Benigno Aquino III, who died on Thursday morning.

"Yes, (I'm running for reelection)...we're just waiting for the 'family' to make the announcement," Hontiveros said during a virtual press briefing on Thursday.

Hontiveros, Akbayan party list national chairperson, said President Aquino's legacy to the nation will serve as her inspiration as she seeks a fresh term in the Senate.

"You know, while we are living, let's take inspiration from each other-- the best in us, not the worst in us, right?" she said.

"So we can be inspired to do more good. Because who else can we be inspired except with each other?"she said.

Hontiveros, earlier, hailed Aquino for being a champion for clean and honest governance, which she said was key to sustaining the remarkable economic growth of the Philippines under his watch.

She said one of Aquino's remarkable legacy is leading the nation in opposing China's repeated incursions before The Hague in 2016 where the Philippines scored a legal victory against Beijing.
