'Home': PH Red Cross helps repatriate remains of OFW who died due to cardiac arrest

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) extended assistance to the family of an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) so they could bring home the remains of their loved one who died of cardiac arrest early this month.

PRC on Friday, June 25, confirmed that the remains of Marilyn Narsagaray De Vera finally arrived from Dubai on June 24, its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Senator Richard Gordon coordinated with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

“It’s bad enough that they lost a family member, the least we can do is reunite her with loved ones the soonest time possible,” Gordon said when he called the DFA regarding De Vera’s plight.

De Vera, 42, was a domestic helper. She died due to cardiac arrest on June 9 however, her relatives had a hard time repatriating her remains.

This, PRC said, was because her “employment status was rendered complicated” by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

Meanwhile, De Vera’s family was very thankful for the assistance they received from PRC.

The family almost lost hope that they could still bring the remains of their loved one home due to financial difficulties. Her remains are already home in Baguio City.

Aside from repatriation assistance, the Welfare Service team of the PRC led by Dr. Zenaida Beltejar also provided psychosocial support to the bereaved family.
