Around one to three tropical cyclones are expected to enter the country in July, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Thursday, June 24.

Weather specialist Benison Estareja said there is a high chance that the cyclones could affect Luzon while there is a slim chance that it would hit Eastern Visayas once they enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

“Ang bilang ng tropical cyclone natin for July ay isa hanggang tatlo. Usually for July, dalawa hanggang apat yung mga pumapasok na bagyo sa ating PAR (The number of our tropical cyclones for July is one to three. Usually for July, two to four cyclone enter our PAR),” Estareja

“Nonetheless, kung ito man ay pumasok ng PAR nandun yung mataas na tsansa na ito’y dumikit o dumaan dito sa may Luzon and maaring may maliit na tsansa na tumama dito sa may Eastern Visayas (Nonetheless, if it enters PAR, there is a high chance that it will be near or pass across Luzon and there may be a small chance that it will hit in Eastern Visayas),” he added.

The weather specialist said below normal rainfall is expected to affect Northern Luzon and western section of Central Luzon, while near normal rainfall for the rest of the country next month.

Meanwhile, the state weather bureau is currently monitoring a tropical storm with international name “Champi” located east of extreme Northern Luzon outside the PAR.

The agency said that the southwest monsoon or “habagat” will persist over Luzon.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will affect Ilocos Region, Apayao, Abra, Benguet, Cagayan, Bataan, Zambales, Occidental Mindoro, and Northern Palawan including Kalayaan Islands due to the prevailing habagat.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the habagat and localized thunderstorms.
