Almost 100 senior citizens of Barangay San Antonio, Pasig were added to the list of beneficiaries of the P1,000 midyear cash gift program of the barangay, increasing the total number of senior citizens recipients to 819.
The P1,000 midyear cash gifts are delivered by barangay personnel to the homes of their 819 senior citizens for their safety and convenience, Chairman Raymond Lising said.
“We are delivering the cash gifts of our seniors to their homes in order to protect them from COVID-19. We want to ensure that they are safe and at the comfort of their homes,” he said in a statement on Thursday (June 24).
Lising said senior citizens in their barangay will receive P1,000 each.
He said the distribution of the cash gift started on June 16, adding that Barangay San Antonio has distributed the cash gifts to 90 percent of its senior citizen beneficiaries.
“The main objective of this is to give assistance to our seniors in our own little way. Naging maganda lang timing now because of the pandemic kaya parang naging dagdag ayuda na din sa kanila lalo na pandagdag sa pambili ng gamot ( It's just good timing now because of the pandemic so it seems like it's been an extra help to them which they can use as additional money to buy medicine),” said Lising.
The barangay chairman has vowed to continue all programs for senior citizens in his barangay.
“The barangay will continue to be of service to our seniors amid the pandemic. In our own little way, ipagpapatuloy natin ipamalas ang ating pagmamahal at pag-aruga sa ating mga lolo at lola sa BSA,” he said.
In December, 2020, the barangay has opted to just give P500 cash gifts to over 700 senior citizens in lieu of a Christmas party in accordance with the IATF-EID directive banning mass gatherings to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Every August, the barangay gives nonagenarian (aged 90 above) residents of the barangay P5,000, which is on top of the P1,000 midyear cash gift.
