The celebration of Manila’s 450th anniversary kicked off with the awarding of outstanding Manilans at the Metropolitan Theater on Wednesday evening (June 23).

A total of 50 awards were given to the most outstanding Manila residents and businesses.
Among the awardees were the top 10 business taxpayers and the top 10 real property taxpayers for the Year 2020.
The Rajah Sulayman Award was given to Dr. Maria Lydia J. Bautista and the Gat. Andres Bonifacio Award was given to Francisco Sionil José.
The following Manilans were also honored for their exemplary performance in their chosen field.
· Ch. Ann Kristine S. Abella, Outstanding Manilan in the field of Barangay Affairs
· Ralph O. De Sagon, Outstanding Manilan in the field of Culture and the Arts
· Dharyl C. Del Mundo, Outstanding Manilan in the field of Education
· Beethoven D. Bunagan, Outstanding Manilan in the field of Entertainment
· Hon. Josefina E. Siscar, Outstanding Manilan in the field of Judiciary
· PLTCOL John K. Guiagui, Outstanding Manilan in the field of Law Enforcement
· Dr. David B. Pinto, Outstanding Manilan in the field of Public Health
· Chiang Kai Shek College Alumni Association, Inc, Outstanding Manilan in the field of Socio-Civic
· Carlos Edriel P. Yulo, Outstanding Manilan in the field of Sports
Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso highlighted in his speech how the city remained steadfast in the times of crisis and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Domagoso remembered how the country was conquered by the foreigners which made the Filipinos strong and united.
"Sa mga pangyayaring ito ay napanday ang pagiging matatag nating mga Manilenyo. Dito unti-unting umusbong ang ating pagiging makabayan at pagkakaroon ng kamalayan sa pangangailangan ng ating lipunan (These events fortified the resilience of Manilans. It developed our patriotism and our awareness of the needs of the society)," he said.
“Maynila, dalhin mo ang bandila!” is the theme of this year's celebration of the city anniversary.
"Ang ating 450 taon ng kasaysayan at kadakilaan ay sa ating kapakinabangan bilang mga batang Maynila dahil ito ang ating magiging patnubay sa maayos, maunlad at mas progresibong bayan (The 450 years of our history and greatness will be our guide to a better, prosperous and more progressive city)," Domagoso said.
The city government has prepared various events for tomorrow's (June 24) celebration which includes wreath-laying ceremonies, a thanksgiving Mass, and the presentation and launching of commemorative stamps.
