Comelec: More than 60 million registered voters as of April 19

More than 60 million have so far registered for the May 2022 polls, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said.

Data from the poll body showed 60,117,780 registered voters as of April 19.

There were more than 58 million registered voters in the Election Registration Board (ERB) hearing last January 18.

The ERB later approved the application for voter registrations of 1,226,412 applicants, and 816,183 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) voters, who have turned 18 years old.

On Tuesday, June 22, Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez reminded qualified voters that there are only 100 days to go before the last day of voter registration.

Those who wish to register may do so from Mondays to Fridays at the Office of the Election Officer or in satellite registration sites from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Last month, the poll body has also urged the public to already register and not wait for the last minute especially amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

"It's important to register early. The problem before was its already crowded at the end," Jimenez said.

"In the Philippines, we have a tendency to be buzzer beaters. So we expect that many will come near the end once again," he added.

The voter registration period will end on September 30.
