The southwest monsoon or "habagat" may still bring scattered light to at times moderate to heavy rains over some areas in western Luzon and Western Visayas, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday afternoon, June 22.

In the next 24 hours, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may affect Pangasinan, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Bataan, Zambales, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides as rains may become moderate to at times heavy.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to habagat and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to stay vigilant against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms.

Moreover, moderate to rough sea conditions will prevail over the coasts of northern and western sections of Luzon, while slight to moderate conditions may prevail over the seas across the rest of the country.

While no gale warning is in effect, PAGASA still advised seafarers and fisherfolk to remain alert during severe thunderstorms as sea conditions may become rough.

Meanwhile, the tropical depression spotted east of the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) has intensified into a tropical storm on Tuesday afternoon.

It has maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 80 kph, and was moving northwest at 20 kph.

It was estimated at 1,965 kilometers east of Southern Luzon at around 3 p.m.

Weather specialist Joey Figuracion said the weather disturbance has no direct effect on the country as of Tuesday.

He said the storm may remain outside the PAR as it moves close to the southern portion of Japan in the next few days.
