'Kingdom: Ashin of the North': A special episode

A sidequel of history, abandonment, and vengeance

“Kingdom” is Netflix’s first Korean series and it took the world by storm in 2019, garnering recognition, nominations, and awards. On account of positive reviews, the South Korean political period horror thriller was renewed for a second season, which was released on March 2020.

Toward the end of Season 2, we found Lee Chang (played by Ju Ji-hoon) and his comrades encountering a mysterious character on their journey to discover the origins of the infected—and it left us on a cliffhanger.

Just a few hours ago, the official teaser trailer for the highly anticipated sidequel was made public. A special episode that reveals the origins of the resurrection plant and the backstory of a mysterious stranger from Hamgyeong province in the North of the country.

Ashin, a supporting character played by Gianna Jun, appeared as an adult nearing the end of season 2 but in this episode, the spotlight will be set on her starting as a child and the struggles she had to face.

“The Kingdom: Ashin of the North,” produced by Studio Dragon, Baram Pictures, and B.A. Entertainment, is set to be released on July 23, 2021.
