Amihan, Secret punch tickets to Wild Rift SEA Icon Series Summer Super Cup playoffs

Filipino teams Amihan Esports and Team Secret came through with impressive group stage performances to barge into the playoffs of the League of Legends: Wild Rift Southeast Asia Icon Series Summer Super Cup.

The surprise champion of the Icon Series PH Summer Split organized by the PPGL, Amihan dominated Group B with a 5-1 win-loss record to seize a quarterfinal spot in Riot Games' first regional tournament for its mobile MOBA esports title.

Amihan, led by mid laner Miguel "Mitsura" Gavin and jungler Jelson "Jelson" Ayon, took down Singapore's Alliance, Indonesia's Bigetron Infinity and Malaysia's Geek Fam to sweep the first round of the group stage on Saturday and Sunday, June 19-20.

The squad which also has Richard "Demon" Lara (ADC), Karl "KARLLL" Bautista (baron) and Beaver-Ed "Orthros" Villanueva (support) lost to Bigetron in between repeat victories over Geek Fam and Alliance in the second round on Monday.

For its part, Secret survived in Group A and landed at the third spot with an even 3-3 slate for a seat in the round of 12.

Headed by captain-support James "Hamezz" Santos and jungler Robert "Trebor" Mansilungan, the squad backed by the European powerhouse organization opened its campaign in a win over Hong Kong's QWQ but lost to Vietnam's SBTC Esports and Thailand's EVOS Esports TH.

Secret, which also has Caster "Chewy" Dela Cruz (ADC), Heri "Tatsurii" Garcia (mid), Eleazar "Azar" Salle (baron) and sixh man Morris "Core" Raymundo, bounced back with another vicotyr over QwQ and a stunner over EVOS before dropping their final game against SBTC on Monday.

Secret and Amihan have yet to know their opponents in the playoffs as matches in the other two groups are still underway as of writing time.

The SEA Icon Series Summer Super Cup stakes a total prize pool of $150,000 (P7.2 million), with the inaugural champion getting $25,000 (P1.2 million).
