Active COVID-19 cases in San Juan down to 67; 4 barangays declared COVID-free

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora announced on Tuesday that the city now only has 67 active COVID-19 cases as of June 21.

In a Facebook post, Zamora also said that four barangays in the city have been declared COVID-19 free.

"Four barangays, namely, Barangays Isabelita, Maytunas, Pasadena, and St. Joseph now have zero active cases," Zamora said.

The mayor added that the city has already vaccinated 63 percent of its target population to achieve herd immunity.

"As of yesterday, we have reached 63% of our target population to be vaccinated. We have already vaccinated a total of 53,407 San Juaneños. We are targeting to vaccinate 70% of our total population or 85,400 of 122,000 to achieve herd immunity in San Juan City," Zamora said.

Zamora urged his constituents and business owners to register with the city’s vaccination program and be protected against COVID-19.

National Task Force Against COVID-19 Deputy Chief Implementer Vince Dizon lauded the city government in its vaccination efforts and said that the city may be the very first city in the country to achieve herd immunity.

The mayor previously said that San Juan can achieve herd immunity by the end of August as it continues to expand its vaccination efforts.
