A tropical depression has developed outside the country's area of responsibility on Monday afternoon, June 21, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA estimated the location of the tropical depression at 2,265 kilometers east of Visayas or outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) at around 3 p.m. It was moving west-northwest at 20 kilometers per hour (kph).

The weather disturbance has maximum sustained winds of 55 kph and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

PAGASA senior weather specialist Chris Perez said the tropical depression has no direct effect on the country yet.

"So far, it has a slim chance of entering the PAR," he added.

The southwest monsoon or "habagat" will still be the dominant weather system that may bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Cavite, Bataan, Zambales, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental in the next 24 hours.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides as rains may become moderate to at times heavy.

Perez said Metro Manila will likely have improved weather condition by Tuesday, June 22, but may still experience isolated rain showers that can occur at any time of the day due to localized thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to habagat and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to stay vigilant against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms.

Moderate to rough sea conditions will likely prevail over the coasts of northern and western sections of Luzon, while slight to moderate conditions may prevail over the seas across the rest of the country.

While no gale warning is in effect, PAGASA still advised seafarers and fisherfolk to remain alert during severe thunderstorms as sea conditions may become rough.
