DOH assures COVID-19 vaccines to be equitably allocated

An official of the Department of Health (DOH) has assured that the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines will be equitably allocated.

"We are still going to follow the prioritization framework. Rest assured that these vaccines will be equitably allocated," Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in an online forum Monday, June 21.

She said that they don't choose any particular brand of COVID-19 vaccine they will send to the regions.

"We don't choose any brand. Whichever brand arrives, we deploy them. Once the vaccines arrive, we don't think of the particular regions they must go to," said Vergeire.

The Health department also denied claims that the government favored Davao in the distribution of Pfizer.

Health Undersecretary Abdullah Dumama said the number of doses received by Cebu and Davao were the same.

"There is no difference in the doses given to Cebu and Davao," he said.

Dumama also explained that the doses given is not for Davao City only.

"This is not just for Davao City. This is for the entire Davao region and other nearby areas," he said.

Dumama added that Davao received such number of doses because they have the capability to handle the vaccines with their ultra low freezers.

The DOH, meantime, said that there are five regions in the country not yet capable of storing Pfizer vaccines and these are Bangsamoro, Caraga, Soccksargen, Bicol, and Mimaropa.

"A big bulk of Pfizer vaccines will arrive in August. We have plenty of time to capacitate other regions," said Vergeire.
