Onic PH bids goodbye to captain Jay

Onic PH has parted ways with its veteran tank and captain Jason Rafael "Jay" Torculas.

The team announced the development through a post on its official Facebook page on Sunday night, June 20.

Jay, who was part of the MPL Philippines Season 3 champion ArkAngel and the SEA Games 2019 gold winning Sibol, spent three seasons with Onic.

He helped the team in white and yellow cruise to the MPL-PH Season 5 grand finals only to lose once again to Sunsparks which seized a historic back-to-back championships.

Jay and Onic settled for the third place after absorbing a 3-2 reverse sweep against Execration in Season 6.

The 24-year-old ML pro became the captain of the squad following the release of Jonmar "OhMyV33nus" Villaluna as well as Danerie James "Wise" Del Rosario for then-Blacklist International prodigy Kairi "FULL CLIP" Rayosdelsol (now simply known as Kairi) along with ex-Execration jungler Jaylord Hate Gonzales.

However, the roster change did not turn into a success as Onic suffered its worst finish in its four seasons in the MPL so far, bowing down to eventual grand finalist Execration in a grueling five-game lower bracket series right in the first round of the playoffs.

The team backed by Indonesia-based organization Onic Esports shared the 7th-8th place with Nexplay Esports in the latest season.

Onic has yet to announce the replacement for Jay in the upcoming MPL Season 8. As it stands, Kairi, Hate, Gerald "Dlar" Trinchera, Christian "Iy4knu" Manaog and Marky "Markyyyyy" Capacio are still with the team.
