Filipino 'heroes' urge voters to register

The Philippines' national heroes come to life in an interactive website -- magparehistroka.com -- to urge qualified voters to register for the 2022 elections.

Heroes Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Apolonario Mabini, Aurora Quezon, and Tandang Sora instruct users on the simple steps of voter registration.

To help users find local Commission on Elections (Comelec) offices within their area, the website also contains maps of the Office of the Election Officers (OEOs) and satellite registration sites.

Registrants are also reminded to observe minimum health protocols -- wearing of face mask and face shield and bringing their own pen and alcohol -- when lining up at Comelec offices to submit their applications.

At the end of the walk-through, the website links to iRehistro, Comelec's registration site.

The website was developed by Comelec in partnership with Google and advertising agency MullenLowe Treyna.

Filipina artist Chinny Basinag illustrated the artworks on the site.

As of June 17, voter registration for the 2022 national elections has surpassed the four million target of Comelec.

The registration is until Sept. 30, 2021.
