DOH: Proposed segregation of unvaccinated, vaccinated people needs careful deliberation

The Department of Health (DOH) expressed concern amid proposals to segrate unvaccinated people and those vaccinated against coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

A more thorough discussion between government agencies is needed regarding this matter, said DOH Spokesperson Maria Rosario Vergeire.

"Mahaba pong diskusyon iyan (This is a long discussion) and I think the other agencies should be able to provide their recommendations as well," she said during the Laging Handa press briefing on Saturday, June 19.

Vergeire noted that it is possible that there could be a human rights issue if people will be separated.

"Mayroon po kasi tayong tinitingnan diyan na mga karapatang pantao, kapag tayo ay nagkaroon ng ganiyang mga (We are considering human rights issue when we have such) differentiation between the vaccinated and unvaccinated," she said.

It is best to just strictly follow the different health protocols for now, said Vergeire.

"Ang tanging maipapayo ko po ay sana po magkaroon na lang tayo ng pag-iingat, tayong lahat (The only thing I can advise is that we should just be careful, all of us)," she said.

"Whether we be vaccinated or not, if only we will follow the minimum public health standard, iyon pong tiyansa ng pagkakahawa-hawa ay magiging mas maliit (the chance of being infected will be low)," she added.

Some business establishments are eyeing to separate those who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 and unvaccinated people, said Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion had disclosed.
