CBCP extends aid to families of prisoners

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines – Episcopal Commission on Prison Pastoral Care continues to extend assistance to the families of persons deprived of liberty or PDLs.

Commission chairman Legazpi Bishop Joel Baylon said it is part of the Church’s mission to reach out to the families of prisoners, especially those whose fathers are in prison.

“As the nation marks Father’s Day today, we recognize the Church’s duty to bring the love of fathers in prison to their families. We try to help them in whatever way we can while the family’s breadwinner is in jail,” Baylon said over Radio Veritas.

The CBCP- Episcopal Commission on Prison Pastoral Care through the Prison Pastoral Ministry attends to the spiritual needs of persons deprived of liberty while extending assistance to their families.

Baylon stressed that aside from financial assistance, the families of PDLs need to feel the presence of the Church so that they remain hopeful that they will one day reunite with their imprisoned loved one.
