Can COVID-19 cause hair loss? DOH says there is no sufficient evidence yet

There is not enough evidence yet that coronavirus disease (COVID-19) can cause hair loss, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

"Wala pa tayong sapat na pag-aaral ukol diyan. Maraming factors ang pwede hong nakaka-cause ng hair loss (We don't have enough studies on that. There are many factors that can cause hair loss)," said DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire on Saturday, June 19.

Hair loss can be related to stress or other diseases, she said.

"Kailangan po nating alagaan ang ating sarili, not just the physical but the mental health. Tayo po ay kailangan maging resilient at this point (We need to take care of ourselves, not just the physical but the mental health as well. We need to be resilient at this point)," said Vergeire.

The DOH has not yet recorded any cases of hair loss due to COVID-19 in the Philippines, said Vergeire.

“Wala pa tayong naitatala na mga ganitong kaso dito sa ating bansa na naging epekto apparently by COVID (We have not yet recorded such cases in our country that were apparently caused by COVID),” said Vergeire.
