PH records 5,257 additional COVID-19 cases

The Philippines logged 5,257 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections on Wednesday, June 2, as shown in the latest case bulletin of the Department of Health (DOH).

The total number of active cases nationwide stood at 52,132 or 4.2 percent of the country's cumulative caseload of 1,240,716.

"Eight duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, six are recoveries," the DOH said.

It was noted that 93.1 percent are experiencing mild symptoms, 2.3 percent are asymptomatic, 1.5 percent are critical, 1.9 percent are in severe condition, and 1.32 percent are experiencing moderate symptoms.

However, the death count also grew to 21,158 after 146 more patients lost their lives. These include the "86 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries (but) were reclassified as deaths after final validation."

The tally of survivors also jumped to 1,167,426 with 6,266 new recoveries, the DOH said.

Meanwhile, 57 percent of intensive care unit (ICU) beds dedicated for COVID-19 patients nationwide are occupied, while 48 percent of isolation beds have been utilized, the DOH said.
