Kiefer Ravena's move to Japan 'not allowed' under PBA rules -- Marcial

Kiefer Ravena may have to clear some things with the PBA before he can push through with his move to play in Japan.

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said terms of the Uniform Players Contract bars the NLEX Road Warriors star from suiting up with B.League side Shiga Lakestars.

Ravena had signed an extension with the Road Warriors last year which was reportedly a three-year deal.

“May UPC siya, may kontrata so hindi pwede,” Marcial said moments after the Lakestars announced Ravena’s signing.

It’s too early to say if Ravena’s bid to play in Japan has suffered a big roadblock since both him and the PBA have yet to formally discuss the matter.

While NLEX can allow Ravena to go ahead, he’ll need to secure a clearance from the league.

As of posting time, the Road Warriors management has yet to make a statement about Ravena’s Japan deal. But Ravena has been present in the team’s recent practice sessions in Pampanga.

NLEX coach Yeng Guiao did acknowledge in March that he’s aware that Ravena has been getting offers to follow the lead of his younger brother Thirdy, who is with the San-En Neophoenix.
