DICT: IATF to discuss guidelines for issuance of vaccine passports

The government is set to discuss the guidelines for the planned issuance of vaccine passports for Filipinos that are already vaccinated against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), an official of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said.

The crafting of the guidelines on the vaccine passport will be discussed "extensively" this week by the members of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), said DICT Undersecretary Emmanuel Rey Caintic during an online town hall event on Wednesday, June 2.

"Ngayon linggo palang kami mag finalize nung ating mga polisiya at guidelines for that and yung plano (This week we will finalize our policies and guidelines for that plan)," said Caintic.

Caintic said that it is important for local government units (LGUs) to complete the necessary data on their vaccinated constituents.

“Alam kong nahihirapan kayong kumpletuhin ang mga datos. Hindi ko palang pwede i-discuss ngayon, pero kailangan po talaga iyan kasi (I know you have a hard time completing the data. I can't discuss now, but we really need that because) we are going to create vaccine passports for international, sea, and air travel, and possibly contemplating on domestic travel," he said.

In January, the Department of Health (DOH) announced the planned issuance of vaccine passport, saying that such system will also be implemented in other countries.

“This would be something of a unique identifier for a specific person who will receive the vaccine, and dito magkakaroon din po sila ng card na nagsasabi na sila ay nabakunahan , either with one dose or two doses--and this will serve as their certificate that they have been vaccinated,” DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire then said.

“I guess this will be part of the protocol to control the borders of each of these countries that we have around the world,” she then added.
