Climbers told to respect Mt. Apo after video of climber drinking liquor went viral
DAVAO CITY - After a video of a trekker drinking liquor at the peak of to Mt. Apo went viral on social media, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) XI Regional Office warned trekkers who will violate the policies set by the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) that they will be held accountable or banned from trekking in the site.
"It has come to our attention that some trekkers have shown indecent behavior within Mt. Apo. A concerned citizen sent some clips of what appears to be a lady trekker drinking wine or liquor at the peak while making unnecessary noise," the DENR Davao said in a statement posted on Facebook on May 29.
The DENR attached the video of the said trekker to its statement. The post currently has 102,000 views and about 2,000 shares.
It also reminded the trekkers to respect the sanctity of Mt. Apo likewise to follow the trekking policies imposed by the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) which includes strict prohibition of nudity and indecent activities.
"Mt. Apo is not just about its ecological and wilderness value. It is also remarkable for its cultural significance and is highly respected as it is believed to be the burial ground of Apo Sandawa, the indigenous community’s Great Forefather," the DENR said.
"Please refrain from making unnecessary noise as it does not only disrespect the sanctity of the mountain, it as well disturbs the wild lives inhabiting in it," it added.
The DENR also reminded the porters and guides to not tolerate violators.
