The Bureau of Customs (BOC) surpassed its revenue collection goal for May 2021 by over P3 billion, posting an actual collection of P49.334 billion, the agency said Wednesday, June 2.

The bureau has recorded a total surplus of 6.6 percent or P3.058 billion based on its original collection target of P46.276 billion for the month that was.
According to the Customs Financial Service, 12 of the 17 collection districts under the bureau exceeded their respective collection goal for May.
These are the Port of San Fernando, Port of Manila, Manila International Container Port, Port of Batangas, Port of Legaspi, Port of Iloilo, Port of Tacloban, Port of Surigao, Port of Cagayan de Oro, Port of Davao, Port of Subic, and Port of Clark.
The BOC said the feat "continues to highlight the bureau's consistent and positive monthly collection for the fifth month this year since January."
The agency has collected P249.793 billion since January. This represents 40.50 percent of the 2021 target collection of P616.749 billion.
Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero said the "positive revenue collection performance is attributed to the improved valuation and volume of importations, and the intensified collective efforts of all the ports to prevent revenue leakages and collect all lawful revenues."
Guerrero also commended the efforts of the district collectors and Customs personnel "who, despite the risk to their health and safety, showed their unwavering commitment and dedication to service."
