61,700 individuals vaccinated against COVID-19 in Marikina City

Marikina City has administered the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines to 61,700 individuals, Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro announced on Wednesday (June 2).

“Tuloy-tuloy ang vaccine rollout natin (Our vaccine rollout continues). Sa ngayon ay 61,700 indidividuals tayong nababakunahan (As of now, we have inoculated 61,700 individuals). Mayroon tayong nabakunahan na (We have administered the vaccine) for the second dose na 19,349 individuals, this will account for six percent of the 18 percent already vaccinated,” he said during the “Laging Handa” press briefing.

Teodoro said they are targeting to inoculate 70 percent of Marikina City's population which is around 290,000 individuals to achieve herd immunity.

“Ayon na rin sa pangulo, at ito ‘yung target natin, kailangan nating makapagbakuna ng hanggang 70 percent of our population that would account for 290,000 individuals (Per Pres. Duterte, and this is also our target, to vaccinate 70 percent of our population or 290,000 individuals).”

The mayor said that, on average, Marikina City administers 3,000 to 4,000 vaccines per day, depending on the available supply of COVID-19 vaccines,

The city government has employed doctors and nurses to boost the vaccination capability of the city.

From 12 vaccination teams, he said that they now have 22 vaccination teams in order to quickly inoculate Marikina residents and workers.

Teodoro said they are explaining to the people that all vaccines are safe and effective, stressing the importance of getting the jab immediately to develop immunity against COVID-19.
