UE Manila stops accepting new students for 4 programs

The University of the East (UE) Manila will no longer accept new enrollees for Journalism, English, Library and Science, and Mathematics degree programs this coming academic year (AY) 2021-2022.

Meanwhile, current students of the four programs will be retained by the university until graduation.

In a report by UE Dawn, the university's official school publication, College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Dean Justina Evangelista said the decision was prompted by low enrollment rates for the four programs.

The CAS Student Council expressed its dismay over the decision of the university.

"Through the years, we have attested how these programs contributed to the University's mileage of producing a roster of exceptional students brimming with pride and glory for its Alma Mater," the students said in a letter addressed to UE President Ester Garcia and Evangelista.

The council also asked the university administration to reconsider their decision.

In May, citing the drop in enrollment for the past six semesters, UE was also forced to permanently discontinue its Electronics Engineering (ECE) program.
