PhilHealth has paid P5.5B so far to PH Red Cross for COVID-19 testing

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has so far paid about P5.5 billion to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) for the humanitarian organization’s coronavirus testing services, an official said Saturday, June 19.

“Ang sa Red Cross kasi, nabayaran na natin doon around P5.5 billion,” said Dr. Shirley B. Domingo, PhilHealth’s vice president for Corporate Affairs and spokesperson, in a public briefing on Saturday.

“Tuloy-tuloy ang pagsubmit sa atin ng mga test claims ng Red Cross kaya tuloy-tuloy ang pag process natin (The Red Cross is constantly submitting test claims to us, so we are continuously processing them,” she added.

Back in April, PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Senator Richard Gordon said that PhilHealth’s total debt to PRC for its coronavirus testing services ballooned to more than P870 million.

“I hope PhilHealth realizes that the money they are not paying us hurts our operations,” Gordon had said.

“They are paying in trickles and we are really having a very, very hard time,” he added.
