DOH detects close to 7,000 new COVID-19 cases

Almost 7,000 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases were reported by the Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday, June 19.

The active cases or patients still being treated hit 59,439 after the DOH detected 6,959 new infections nationwide. The cumulative tally of confirmed cases in the Philippines stood at 1,353,220.

Ninety-two percent of the currently ill patients have mild symptoms, 3.6 percent are asymptomatic, 1.3 percent are critical, 1.7 percent are severe, and 1.25 percent have moderate symptoms.

The number of recoveries was pushed to 1,270,243 after 9,407 patients survived the dreaded illness. The recovery total accounts for 93.9 percent of the country’s tally of cases.

However, the death toll increased by 153 to 23,538 as shown in the latest case bulletin. The case fatality rate is at 1.74 percent.

Meanwhile, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire emphasized the importance of strict border control to prevent the possible entry of more Delta variant cases in the Philippines. This variant originated from India.

She also advised the local government units to strictly enforce the minimum public health standards and the strategy on prevention, detection, isolation, tracing, and reintegration in their respective jurisdictions.

The public were also once again reminded to follow the health protocols to protect themselves from contracting COVID-19.
