Diocese of Legaspi willing to open facilities as quarantine sites

The Diocese of Legaspi said it is offering its church facilities as quarantine areas amid the upward trend of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the Bicol region.

Diocese of Legazpi Bishop Joel Baylon said they are currently coordinating with the government officials.

“Nakikipag-ugnayan kami ng lubusan with government especially in terms of whatever facilities we can offer for quarantine and isolation sa mga nagka-COVID-19, yung mga positive na COVID-19 cases (We are closely in talks with the government, especially in terms of whatever facilities we can offer for quarantine and isolation of COVID-19 patients),” said Baylon in an interview with Church-run Radyo Veritas.

“Medyo tumataas ang bilang ng COVID-19 cases din namin dito, medyo alarming nga ito kasi hindi ito datirating nangyayari (The number of COVID-19 cases is increasing here, it's a bit alarming because it does not happen before)," he added.

Baylon said that they started to limit religious activities and gatherings due to the current COVID-19 situation.

"We are trying our best to observe as much as we could the social protocols that are supposed to be in place," he said.

"Kapag sinabi ng gobyerno na babawasan namin ang activities sa Simbahan binabawasan namin yun ngayon (Once the government instructed us to reduce our activities in our churches, we immediately followed),” he added.

Department of Health (DOH) data showed that the total number of confirmed cases in Bicol region is at 15,941, wherein 5,395 are active cases, 10,044 have already recovered, while 502 died.
