Police save Chinese POGO worker from kidnappers just in the nick of time

A Chinese POGO (Philippine offshore gaming operator) worker who was allegedly abducted by six suspects was rescued by the police in Parañaque City on Thursday afternoon, June 17.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said five Chinese suspects and a Filipino cohort were arrested for the alleged kidnapping of the 23-year-old victim, whose identity was withheld for security reasons.

The suspects were identified as Li Yang, Zhou Hao, Liu Jie Yong, Zhang Jia Hao, Qui You Bo, and Nelson Malavega, whom the Chinese suspects tapped as driver.

According to a report from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), the victim was taken by the suspects after he alighted from a cab along Bradco Avenue corner Cuinco Street, Aseana in Barangay Tambo around 1:40 p.m.

Initial reports said the victim owed the suspects a debt amounting to P750,000.

The victim tried to escape but he was overpowered by the suspects, who loaded him into a van.

The commotion caught the attention of security personnel of a nearby hotel, pormpting them to report the incident to Paranaque City Police Sub-Station 2.

A police unit responded and intercepted the vehicles of the suspects, which led to their arrest.

Eleazar commended the Paranaque City Police for their immediate action.

"We also thank the community for calling the police to save the victim from the kidnappers," he added.

The suspects were placed under the custody of the Parañaque City Police Station for proper investigation and filing of appropriate charges.
