PAGASA: 'Monsoon break' to bring warm weather in next 2 days

Warm and humid weather conditions may prevail over most parts of the country in the next two days due to a monsoon break or a temporary pause in rains brought by the southwest monsoon or "habagat."

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Shelly Ignacio on Friday, June 18, said the southwest monsoon will have a weak effect over the country in the next two days but will strengthen again by next week and may affect the western section of Luzon.

As of Friday, a weak habagat continued to affect the extreme portion of northern Luzon, while a ridge of high pressure area prevailed over the rest of Luzon.

The ridge of high pressure area, which is the opposite of the low pressure area, is associated with good weather condition, Ignacio explained.

Based on its extended weather outlook for key areas from June 19 to 22, PAGASA said that maximum air temperatures may reach 32-33 degrees Celsius (â„ƒ) in Metro Manila, 34-37â„ƒ in Tuguegarao City, 24-25â„ƒ in Baguio City, 30-32â„ƒ in Tagaytay City, 31-32â„ƒ in Puerto Princesa City, 32-33â„ƒ in Metro Cebu, 32-33â„ƒ in Metro Davao, and 34â„ƒ in Zamboanga City.

Ignacio said most parts of the country will have fair weather conditions but may still experience some isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA constantly reminds the public to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
