High-end scrap: BOC destroys McLaren, Porsche, other smuggled luxury cars
A total of 21 smuggled vehicles were reduced to scrap after the Bureau of Customs (BOC) simultaneously destroyed seized luxury and "knocked down" cars in Manila and Cagayan de Oro on Friday, June 18.

A brand new McLaren 620R, a used Hyundai Genesis, one used Bentley 2007, one used Porsche 911 C2S, a used Mercedes-Benz, one unit Lotus, and one unit of Toyota Solara were gathered at the BOC headquarters in Manila for the public condemnation.
These vehicles were intercepted by customs agents at the Manila International Container Port (MICP), Port of Manila (POM), and Port of Subic.
Meanwhile, 14 knocked down vehicles that had been seized by the Port of Cagayan de Oro were also destroyed in Barangay Tablon, Cagayan de Oro.
The smuggled vehicles were valued at P58.55 million. They were shipped into the country by different importers and seized on separate occasions from 2018 to 2020.
The bureau says that the condemnation of the vehicles is pursuant to Presidential Directive 2017-447, which orders the disposition of smuggled vehicles through public condemnation instead of public auction to prevent smugglers from getting their importation back through bidding.
Seventeen smuggled vehicles were also destroyed by the BOC last Feb. 9, 2021.
