Guarding West PH Sea: PCG to build substation in Zambales

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will build another substation in San Narciso, Zambales to strengthen its enforcement of maritime security in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

The PCG said Sub-Station San Narciso is set to be constructed approximately 250 kilometers from Bajo De Masinloc or Scarborough Shoal.

“Sa oras na masimulan ang operasyon ng PCG Sub-Station San Narciso, magiging mas maagap ang PCG sa pagbabantay sa seguridad at kaligtasan ng mga lokal na mangingisda ng Zambales (Once the operation of PCG Sub-Station San Narciso begins, the PCG will be more proactive in monitoring the security and safety of local fishermen in Zambales),” the Coast Guard said in a statement on Friday, June 18.

On Wednesday, June 16, the PCG Station Zambales and Barangay La Paz signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the construction of PCG Sub-Station San Narciso on the local government’s 100-square meter lot.

According to the MOA, Barangay La Paz will allow the PCG to use this lot for the construction of a sub-station that will also serve as a billeting area for Coast Guard personnel.

The Coast Guard said the expected response to any maritime incidents off San Narciso waters will be faster due to the substation.

“Matututukan din ang pagtataguyod ng marine environmental protection dahil ang San Narciso ay tahanan ng siyam na beach resort na nagbibigay ng hanapbuhay sa mga residente at nagpapalakas sa lokal na turismo ng Zambales (The PCG will also focus on the promotion of marine environmental as San Narciso is a home to nine beach resorts that provide employment to residents and boost local tourism in Zambales),” it added.
