China-funded Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge inches toward completion

The Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge--one of the two China government-funded bridges in Metro Manila--is now 93.02 percent complete, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar said Friday, June 18.

With the current progress rate, the July 2021 opening of the bridge is within reach, Villar said during a press briefing in connection with the administration's Build, Build, Build program.

"Next month made-deliver na po itong Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge at makakabawas din sa traffic sa EDSA (Next month, we will finally deliver the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge, which will help decongest the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue)," the secretary said.

The bridge connects Estrella Street in Makati City to Barangka Drive in Mandaluyong City.

An important connectivity project across Pasig River, the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge will replace the old temporary steel truss bridge linking the two cities.

Once completed, the new bridge will divert around 50,000 vehicles per day away from EDSA traffic.

The Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge is one of the two grant bridges from the People’s Republic China. The other bridge under the China grant is the Binondo-Intramuros Bridge, which is 68 percent complete.
