CDA vows to provide assistance to pandemic-hit cooperatives

The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) on Friday, June 18 said it will conduct a review on cooperatives affected by the ongoing pandemic.

Undersecretary Joseph Encabo, CDA chairperson, said the review will seek to determine what assistance that the agency should provide to pandemic-hit cooperatives.

“Magkakaroon ng review ang board of directors sa kanilang current status kung bakit sila ay magsasara (The board of directors will have a review of their current status as to why they are closing),” Encabo said in public briefing.

“At kung meron kaming mga programang akma sa kanilang pangangailangan, lalong-lalo na ang mga financial assistance and program, sila ang magiging priority namin (And if we have programs that fit their needs, especially financial assistance and other programs, they will be our priority),” he added.

CDA official said the agency has previously presented abroad the products of cooperatives affected by the pandemic, to help cooperatives showcase their products in the international market.

This is in cooperation with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Moreover, Encabo said the CDA has forged a partnership with other agencies to channel their resources and services so that cooperatives can also benefit from them.

“Isa sa mga reforms na aming naumpisahan na ay pakikipag partner sa ibat-ibang agencies para ‘yung mga resources nila ay matatangap ng ating mga kooperatiba (One of the reforms that we have started is partnering with various agencies so that their resources will be received by our cooperatives),” he said.

“At doon sila pwede magsimula muli para sa kanilang pangkabuhayan at livelihood programs (And these will help cooperatives start again with their livelihood programs),” he added.
