Arroyo: Romualdez 'very qualified' as VP

Former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is elated over the announcement of President Rodrigo Duterte that he would be supporting House Majority Leader and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez if the latter decides to run for vice president.

“I am happy for Martin. Indeed he is very qualified,” Arroyo said in a statement issued last night.

Romualdez is the president of Lakas-CMD, the political party that Arroyo chaired in 2008-2009 while serving as president.

The lawmaker has not discounted the possibility of teaming up with Duterte’s daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte who is being pushed to run for president next year.

This developed as political pundits are of the belief that the city mayor is also entertaining the possibility of teaming up with either former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and former Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro in the national polls.

Marcos is a first cousin of Romualdez while Teodoro was Lakas-CMD president when he run for the highest office in in the country in 2010.
