PCG continues to monitor environmental damage caused by Manila wharf fire
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is continuously conducting water sampling to assess the environmental damage of the fire that engulfed a cargo vessel in Delpan Bridge, Tondo, Manila.
PCG spokesperson Commodore Armand Balilo said the water sampling is to determine and prevent the possible oil spill in the area.

“Wala namang ibang findings. Diesel lang yung spill. May konting bunker fuel or sludge na humalo pero minimal lang (There are no other findings. Diesel is the only spill. There is a little bunker fuel or sludge but it is minimal.) Continuous water sampling for monitoring purposes,” Balilo told the reporters on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Coast Guard search and rescue personnel found on Monday, June 14, a cadaver in the area of the burnt and sunken cargo vessel MV Titan 8.
PCG Commodore Leo Panopio, commander of the PCG National Capital Region (NCR), said the cargo vessel was loaded drums of fuel and gasoline that might caused the huge explosion. The ship was also loaded with lumber.
PCG personnel also laid absorbent pads to cover the thick “oil sheens” and oil spill blooms and prevent a possible oil spill in the area where cargo vessel sank after the blaze on Saturday, June 12.
Authorities are still conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
