Father eyed in killing of children, live-in partner in Laguna

The Biñan City Police in Laguna has tagged the father as a suspect in the brutal death of his two children and live-in partner whose bodies were discovered inside their home in the city on Tuesday (June 15).

In an interview with DZBB, Laguna Provincial Police Office Spokesperson Col. Chit Gaoiran said that this was based on the initial investigation by Biñan City Police Chief Lt. Col Giovanni Martinez.

The father, identified as Johnny Martinez, 46, hanged himself to death with his hands covered in blood, inside the house that he shared with his live-in partner Jolly Espinas, 41 and their two children, one of them only one year old.

Espinas and the children sustained head injuries. A blood-smeared hammer was found at the scene.

Gaoiran said the couple lived in an area where houses are close to each other but on the day of the killing, the neighbors did not hear anything unusual except for the crying of the infant at around 11 p.m. on Monday, June 14. The couple has lived in the area for five years, according to Gaoiran.

Neighbors of the couple said they were good people and had no known enemies. However, the neighbors said that the couple used to have altercations related to their finances, according to Gaoiran.

"Yung padre de pamilya kasi is dating driver ng bus but isang buwan na siyang walang trabaho (The father previously worked as a bus driver but has been jobless in the past month)," Gaoiran said. Before the incident, the couple also used to run a sari-sari or general merchandise store.
