Fair weather with localized thunderstorms to prevail over most of PH

Fair weather conditions with some localized thunderstorms will prevail over most parts of the country in the next few days, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Benison Estareja said on Wednesday, June 16.

While the southwest monsoon or "habagat" persists, Estareja pointed out that it is also "normal" to have warm weather.

"May mga nagtatanong bakit mainit hindi naman monsoon break? Dahil may southwest monsoon pa rin na umiiral at normal naman na mayroon tayong maaaraw na panahon. Expect natin sa mga susunod na araw hindi ganun kadalas or hindi ganun kalakas ang pag-ulan lalo na sa Southern Luzon and Visayas (Some are asking why is it hot when it is not the monsoon break? Because the southwest monsoon persists and it is normal to have sunny weather during this period. We expect in the coming days not that rains will not be so often or heavy, especially in Southern Luzon and Visayas)," he said during PAGASA's live weather forecast.

Based on its extended weather outlook for key areas from June 17 to 20, PAGASA said that maximum air temperatures may reach 32-33 degrees Celsius (℃) in Metro Manila, 36-37℃ in Tuguegarao City, 24℃ in Baguio City, 30-31℃ in Tagaytay City, 32-33℃ in Puerto Princesa City, 33℃ in Metro Cebu, 33℃ in Metro Davao, and 33-34℃ in Zamboanga City.

Estareja also said that there is a slim chance for a low pressure area or tropical cyclone to form inside the Philippine area of responsibility this week.

Moreover, no gale warning is in place in any part of the country on Wednesday morning.

Moderate to rough sea conditions will likely prevail over the coasts of northern Luzon, while slight to moderate conditions may prevail over the seas across the rest of the country.

While no gale warning is in effect, PAGASA still advised seafarers and fisherfolk using small boats to remain alert during severe thunderstorms as sea conditions may become rough.
