COVID-19 hospitalizations in Metro Manila decreasing, says private hospitals group

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) hospitalizations in the National Capital Region (NCR) is decreasing, the Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines (PHAPI) said Wednesday, June 16.

In an interview with TeleRadyo, PHAPI President Dr. Rene Jose de Grano said the number of COVID-19 patients being treated in private hospitals in NCR is starting to drop.

"The hospitalizations in NCR have decreased a bit, our private hospitals have been decongested a bit," de Grano said in Filipino.

De Grano noted that most COVID-19 patients in the region are now in isolation facilities.

"Almost 95 percent of our cases are asymptomatic and mild. Those are the ones that are usually not admitted to hospitals. Moderate to severe and also critical cases are the ones sent to hospitals," he added.

On Wednesday, OCTA Research Team reported that the number of new COVID-19 cases in NCR continues to decrease, now averaging 829 cases daily.

The current positivity rate in NCR now stands at eight percent, with a 35-percent hospital bed occupancy, 46-percent intensive care unit (ICU) bed occupancy, and 33-percent mechanical ventilator occupancy.
