Mobile Voter Registration Form App safe from hacking - poll official

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday, June 15, assured the public that their Mobile Voter Registration Form App system is safe from hacking.

Comelec Commissioner Marlon Casquejo explained that the app was designed not to be connected to the Internet.

"It is a stand alone program, which means you don't need to have internet connection to access the app," he said during the virtual launch of the App.

"Therefore, hacking incident is remote considering that the application we developed is not connected to the Internet," Casquejo added.

It was in 2016 when the Comelec website fell victim to hacking activities by the group called "Anonymous Philippines" which put at risk the personal information of an estimated 55 million registered voters.

The Mobile Registration Form App is downloadable through the link, bit.ly/MobileFormApp.

The App can be shared offline from one Android smartphone to another through SHAREit or any other file-sharing application.

Once installed, the user may already apply for voter registration without need for Internet connectivity.

To use the Mobile Registration Form App, follow these steps:

1. Open the mobile app, and tap “Get Started.”

2. Select the desired type of application and tap “Proceed.”

3. Input all the necessary personal information.

4. Confirm your personal information by ticking the checkbox.

5. Tap “Generate QR Code” and “Save” to save it in your phone gallery.

6. Bring a valid ID upon visiting your local Comelec office for your QR Code scanning.

The poll body said the mobile app was rolled out in select pilot areas at the start of June and is currently being implemented in more than 500 cities and municipalities nationwide, including National Capital Region (NCR), Cebu City and Davao City.
