DOH says of more than 6K new COVID-19 cases, 940 came from Calabarzon, followed by Metro Manila with 832

Of the more than 6,000 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases recorded Monday, June 14, the Department of Health (DOH) said 832 came from the National Capital Region (NCR)

But Health Secretary Francisco Duterte III said Region 4A or Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) had the highest percentage in national case load with 940.

"Cases are also increasing in Region 6 with 683. The remaining 3,971 came from other regions," he said in a meeting with President Duterte.

As of Monday, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country was 1,322,053.

Meanwhile, an official of the DOH said the country still has a long way to go when it comes to achieving herd immunity.

"We need to understand how we interpret numbers. If we compute completed doses, what is the target? 70 percent of population. Not the entire country. Herd immunity is 70 percent of population," Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a virtual forum.

"We still have a long way to go. We need to ramp up our vaccination efforts. Hopefully, our supplies will stabilize already so that we can increase the number of fully vaccinated individuals," she added.

As of June 13, the DOH said, around five million doses of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines were already administered for the first dose.

"Following the initial target of 70 million, we have covered seven percent of the target eligible population for the first dose and two percent of the target eligible population completed the second dose," it said.
