Dizon: FIBA qualifiers sends message of hope amid COVID-19 pandemic

Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) President and CEO Vince Dizon said the country's hosting of the third window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup sends a message of hope amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Philippines, through the Based Conversion and Development Authority, Clark Development Corp., and Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, is hosting the final window of the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers from June 16 to 20.

"This is the first international sporting event since we went through this very difficult time," Dizon said.

"Seeing Gilas Pilipinas compete here at home is such a welcome sight and gives us so much hope that we are towards the tail end of this difficult time," he added.

A total of 617 local and foreign players, coaches, and staff are expected to be included in Clark bubble.

Dizon assured in May that foreign teams followed strict health and safety protocol before arriving in the country.

Movements of players, coaches, and staff will be limited to within the airport, hotels, and the Angeles University Foundation and Cultural Center where the tournament will be held.
