AFP resumes vaccination of military frontliners

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has started vaccinating again its military frontliners on Monday, June 14, in its General Headquarters at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City with the arrival of more vaccine supplies.

Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), said the vaccination was resumed after Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo Station Hospital received an initial sum of 500 doses of CoronaVac-Sinovac vaccines for the personnel assigned at the AFP General Headquarters.

"With full confidence in our government’s pursuit of promoting the interests of our people, the AFP leadership urges all its members to wholeheartedly support the national vaccination program," Sobejana said.

According to the AFP, the National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) released an advisory last June 10 assuring the regular and steady delivery of 20.5 million doses of Sinovac vaccines until end of October 2021.

On April 29, the AFP completed the delivery of 70,000 Sinovac vaccines to its military treatment facilities (MTFs) nationwide. Meanwhile, 3,339 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines have been delivered to MTFs in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao as of June 10.

However, the AFP has yet to receive additional doses that it requested for military treatment facilities (MTFs) in the National Capital Region (NCR) including the Army General Hospital, Manila Naval Hospital, and Air Force General Hospital.

Sobenana extended the AFP's gratitude to the national government for bringing into the country the "much-needed" vaccines.

"The steady delivery of the doses shall bring immense benefits that the people need in order to restore normalcy in the country," General the AFP Chief said.

As of June 11, a total of 34,978 AFP personnel have already received their first dose of the Sinovac vaccine while 34,390 already got their second dose.

Further, a total of 1,667 AFP personnel have been inoculated with their first dose of AstraZeneca vaccines while 1,155 got their second dose.
