Sotto to voters: Look at candidates' track record, political experience
Senate President Vicente Sotto III has an advice for potential candidates and voters in choosing the Philippines' next president and vice president.

Sotto said on Monday, June 14, that an "excellent track record and political experience" should be used by Filipinos as a yardstick when voting for the country’s top two leaders in the 2022 elections.
If you want to be a president or vice president, first of all, our countrymen should see that you have an excellent track record and what solutions you could offer to solve the many problems of the country)," Sotto said in an interview over radio RMN.
"Kailangang handa ka ring mag-submit ng iyong report card sa taumbayan (You should be prepared to submit your report card to the people)," he added.
Voters, he added, must also not take the risk in electing their next leader especially during this time of pandemic and its impacts to the economy.
There is no 'Take 2', that you would only think of what you will do after you win. These are the positions in government where you would learn only when you assume the post),” Sotto said.
He further said: “Hindi mo pwedeng pag-praktisan ang pagka-pangulo at bise-presidente. Kung baga sa laro walang ‘ulit,’ walang ‘Take 2’ o ‘Take 3.’ You cannot practice being a president or vice president. Your mistake will affect all Filipinos. There is no repeat performance, no 'Take 2' or 'Take 3')."
The Senate leader, who started serving as a senator in 1992, is mulling on running for vice president along with his friend and colleague Senator Panfilo Lacson as his running mate for presidency.
The two have yet to make their decision as they consult political veterans, former Cabinet members, their party mates and other sectors about their political plans.
Among others, Sotto and Lacson said they are also considering what they can offer to solve the impacts of the coronavirus outbreak to the country.
