Robredo's 'angels' receive COVID-19 vaccines; VP urges Filipinos to get jabbed, too

Vice President Leni Robredo is not alone in the household with coronavirus vaccines. Her domestic helpers are joining the herd, too.

Robredo posted photos of her Facebook page last weekend showing two of her household workers being vaccinated with their first COVID-19 dose in Quezon City.

Last week, the government began its inoculation of A4 category, or essential workers as part of its COVID-19 vaccination program.

The A4 vaccinations are ongoing in NCR Plus that consists of Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal, as well as Batangas, Pampanga, Metro Cebu and Metro Davao.

“Our angels at home got their first dose of the COVID vaccine,” Robredo said, noting that they were inoculated at the drive-thru facility at SM North Edsa.

The vice president recalled they encountered “several glitches” upon the online registration because of a “deluge of registrants.”

“We then went through the barangay-assisted route and got a schedule...It didn’t take long and they were back home in no time,” she said.

Robredo received her first shot of COVID-19 vaccine made by British drugmaker AstraZeneca at the Pinyahan Elementary School in Quezon City last May.

She got vaccinated together with 17 other staff members at the Office of the Vice President (OVP). They belong to the A3 priority group comprising persons with comorbidities.

In her home, Robredo’s daughters Aika and Tricia, a doctor, have already completed their dual doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The vice president urged again Filipinos to join the government’s immunization program to protect themselves against the virus.

“Huwag na tayo magdalawang isip, magpabakuna na tayo kasi ngayon isa iyon sa pinakamalakas na panlaban natin para masugpo na iyong pandemiya. Gusto na po nating makabalik sa normal nating buhay (We should not think twice, let us get vaccinated because that’s our strong defense now to curb the pandemic. We want to return to our normal lives),” she said on her Sunday radio show.

As of June 8, government data showed the number of fully vaccinated Filipinos has stood at 1,681,722, while 4,632,826 people have received their first COVID-19 vaccine dose.
