Fit and ready to go, Iniong raring to see action in the Circle

Team Lakay veteran Gina Iniong is raring to get back in the Circle after a lengthy hiatus from the sport since her journey with motherhood began.

Iniong took a break a much-needed break from mixed martial arts since giving birth to firstborn Gianna Rose last November.

She has not fought since scoring a unanimous decision against Indian foe Asha Roka in January last year.

But the former No. 5 women's atomweight contender remains hungry for action, baring that she keeps herself fit amid the COVID-19 pandemic while juggling her mother duties.

"Despite my busy days as a mom, I know I still have to keep myself fit and train here at home since we have a mini gym here. I have to keep on working if I want to be as competitive as I was back then," said Iniong, who holds a 9-4 record.

And right now, Iniong would have to sit out for a while as she tries to assess the fighters in her division in the postponed grand prix.

With a tight schedule, the 32-year-old Team Lakay stalwart learned how to "approach things better" with proper time management.

Thanks to baby Gianna, Iniong is more than motivated to improve his game and return to ONE Championship.

"I've always had that drive and fire to fight, and for sure, that drive and fire just got stronger with my daughter around. As a parent, all I want is for my child to see my hands raised at the end of my match," said the 2019 Southeast Asian Games kickboxing gold medalist.

"It's an amazing feeling to be a mom and it changed my view about life," she admitted, smiling ear-to-ear when talking about her baby. It changed me a lot especially now that I'm looking after a fragile human being that is solely dependent on me."

Iniong has four wins and two losses in ONE Championship since her promotional debut in April 2017.
