DOH says AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines set to expire this June and July already distributed

The Department of Health (DOH) said the AstraZeneca coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines set to expire this month and in July have already been distributed.

"Yes, 100 percent distributed. Its already in the vaccination sites," Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a virtual forum Monday, June 14.

She added that 2.4 million jabs have been given already to individuals.

"We are looking at around 100,000 plus that need to be administered to our countrymen. We have reached our target already," said Vergeire.

Over two million doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines were earlier received by the Philippines from the COVAX Facility. About 1.5 million jabs are set to expire by end of June, while the remaining 500,000 doses are expiring by July.

AstraZeneca vaccines are given in two doses that are 4 to 12 weeks apart.

Meanwhile, the Health official said they expect 11 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to arrive in the country this month.

"We have a commitment from Sinovac...one million will be delivered per week for this month of June," said Vergeire.

She added that two million doses of Sinovac already arrived as well as 2.2 million doses of Pfizer.

Vergeire said they also have a commitment from Sputnik V of one million doses, AstraZeneca of about two million doses, Moderna of 250,000 doses.

"When we look at it we are expecting for the month of June around 11 million doses," she said.

Vergeire, meantime, revealed that the one million doses of Sinovac vaccines that arrived here last week have yet to be distributed.

“If we distribute vaccines, the documents must be complete. For the recent deliveries of Sinovac, we still do not have their ‘certificate of analysis’ and this should come from the manufacturer,” she said.
