1Sambayan's membership app goes offline after it was hacked

Opposition coalition 1Sambayan has gone back to manual registration of members and volunteers after its mobile application was hacked on Saturday, June 12.

In a statement, 1Sambayan convenor Bro. Armin Luistro said the mobile membership app, 1Sama Ako, was breached by a “professional hacker” in time for their event.

The unauthorized access resulted to 1Sambayan placing the “entire system under maintenance mode” to prevent further data breach.

Luistro, head of 1Sambayan membership committee, explained the data was breached through the Application Programming Interface or API that the coalition used.

“The offending API has been patched. And we will engage an audit team to reassess our system security protocols,” he said.

The group has already reported this hacking incident to the National Privacy Commission (NPC).

“We have also notified registered volunteers affected by the breach, warning them of potential risks, and offering technical support if they need it,” Luistro added.

On Saturday, 1Sambayan announced the six nominees for president and vice president in the May 2022 polls, but four of them have either declined the nomination or said they do not have plans to run for higher office.

The list is composed of Senator Grace Poe, human rights lawyer Chel Diokno, evangelist Bro. Eddie Villanueva, and Batangas Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto, Vice President Leni Robredo and former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.

Robredo and Trillanes were only among those who did not decline the 1Sambayan nomination.

Luistro said they will not allow any attempts “to derail our efforts by those opposed to our aspirations for a better leadership in 2022, deter us from continuing with our avowed cause.”
